Known as "Southern Rock Royalty" and the "great American rock 'n' roll band," The Kentucky Headhunters have maintained a longevity that most acts can only dream about. With a GRAMMY Award, a CMA Album of the Year Award, two CMA Vocal Group of the Year Awards, two Top 10 charting albums, and four consecutive Top 40 hits, their international success spans multiple genres.
The "Heads" are credited with creating a unique blend of honky-tonk, blues, and Southern rock that appeals to even the toughest music critics and listeners of all kinds.
Getting their start in 1968, brothers Fred and Richard Young and cousins Greg Martin and Anthony Kenney, from Edmonton, Kentucky, formed Itchy Brother, which later evolved into The Kentucky Headhunters after Kenney departed and Doug Phelps joined the band. Their debut album, Pickin' on Nashville (1989), surprised the music world by becoming a major success, selling more than two million copies.
Their newest album, On Safari, tips its hat to family and the Southern way of life. Inspired by several life-changing events, both personal and professional, the album features nine original songs along with covers of Alice Cooper and Charlie Daniels classics. It is a must-listen for fans of Southern rock, blues, Americana, and country music.
The Kentucky Headhunters continue to bring their electrifying live show across North America and recently completed their first-ever European tour. Their ability to reinvent themselves year after year continues to attract new fans around the globe, proving that—even after decades of success—the long-haired Southern blues-rockers have no plans of slowing down.
