Angry Black Woman 101 is a 60-minute solo show written and performed by Oakland-based theater artist and burlesque performer Kathryn Seabron, directed by Lynn Vidal. Here's a fuller picture:
The Premise
The show takes an introductory dive into the microaggressions, tropes, and misogynoir Black women face in the workplace and in society at large. It is couched in a truthful and hurtful work situation Seabron experienced at a local nonprofit, illustrating micromanagement, higher scrutiny, and the invisibility of Black women's wellbeing and safety. Interspersed throughout are vignettes, stories, poetry, and media pieces exploring the crossroads of misogyny and racism that Black women navigate daily: at work, at school, on the street, at the market.
